Description

1. A cop who isn’t a cop. A tow truck driver who isn’t a tow truck driver. Kidnappers who aren’t kidnappers. Mobsters who aren’t mobsters. And a lady in distress who’s neither a lady nor in distress. Meet Hook, his small circle of “friends,” and his one-eyed cat, Patch, as they navigate the streets of Kansas City while trying to not fall prey to crazy drivers, the local authorities, or a psychotic ex-girlfriend.
2. When Hook’s boss, Jimmy  Penders,said Custom & Classic Hauling added a lucrative new contract, Hook knew there would be difficulties. But he never expected someone to put a hit on Jimmy. And he certainly didn’t think trouble would take the form of a… vampire?
3. Stacks of ill- gotten cash. Secret papers of the Black Hand. Guns used in a horrific crime. Lists of corrupt officials. Piles of gold and jewelry. Or maybe a whole lot of disappointing nothingness. Everyone had a favorite theory of what treasure the “Mystery of History” safe contained. Except Hook and Patch. They didn’t care.
4. The powerful Jimmy Penders sits in jail for a double- murder he (probably) didn’t commit. The metro is flooded with (almost) flawless funny money. The Penders business empire burns while Hook is (kind of) in charge. The stuff really hits the fan when Hook resorts to exercise (running like a fool) to get out of a jam. Despite a long-lost (but not missed) relative swooping in to save the day, Patch must skip several naps to keep Hook from being burned by a world that is literally on fire.
5. Things are looking up. Getting out from under the thumb of Kansas City’s most powerful “legitimate businessman” is good. Escaping with a generous severance is even better. Hooking cars again just like the old days is nice. Patch enjoying nearly unlimited kitty treats is nicer. The newest client is a bit bossy, though — not cool. Dea’s new business partner is known to be a bit sketchy — even less cool. And, the noisy new neighbor sounds like all kinds of irritating. Maybe things are only going sideways.

What it does for you

The book appears on the screen in small portions of text, one screen at a time. You read using the buttons, with a steady and natural rhythm, without scrolling or jumping around. It’s a different kind of reading experience, slower and more intentional, where each page becomes a small pause. As a person with ADHD, I find that reading in this format helps me stay inside the text without my attention drifting.

What you receive

You receive a fully working Game Boy cartridge with one complete book already loaded and ready to read. Each cartridge contains a single book. The cartridge comes in a cassette-style box, with custom graphics and instructions, designed as a collectible object. An original gift for people who love books, retro gaming, and objects that feel slightly out of time.

Compatible with original Nintendo Game Boy DMG, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Light, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Player, and recent third-party consoles that can read these cartridges, like Analogue Pocket.
